trouble with oil change
me and my uncle tried to do an oil change on my truck today. it has 3100 miles on it and it didnt go so well. first of all the bolt that covers the oil drainage hole was so tight. when you loosened it, it was so difficult to turn and takeout. usually you can hand loosen it but not here. the bolt finally came out and it was stripped. we took it to the dealer and there like it can be covered under the warranty bc the truck is not present. i couldnt start the truck bc it had no oil in it so we had to buy the bolt. then when we got back to the shop the air filter that we spent over an hour on wouldnt budge for anything.. its still on there. has this happened to anyone else? and anyone have any tips?
Hindsight is wonderful - this is why we recommend you have the dealer do the first oil change. They do not use oil on the filter gasket at the factory and some gorilla with an impact wrench installs it.

Hard to follow. Are you referring to the oil filter or the drain plug?

I took that stupid plastic oil drip pan thing off - made it a little easier to get at the filter. I also did the big *** screwdriver through the filter as glc mentioned on the first go-around.
If you take the filter off, you will not have to drain the oil - you will have to add about 1/2 quart which is about what the filter holds. The filter inlet/outlet is higher than the level of oil in the pan so you won't lose any oil except what's in the filter.
