Trouble removing Spark Plug

Ok...so im trying to replace my spark plugs. I removed the coil and started wrenching the spark plug out but when it reached the top, it just wouldnt come out. It'll keep spinning when it gets to the top but i just cant seem to pull it out. Any ideas? could there possibly be something wrong with the threads? It tightens down all the way so i don't see that the threads could be bad.

Let me guess you have a 2004+ or newer truck? I hate to say this but if so start reading some threads around here. From reading its almost impossable to change them without breaking one in the head and or stripping the plugs! Ive heard SO many nightmares now not sure if I would of bought a new Ford because of it.

04 is correct

true i do have an 04 but most of the threads mention breaking the plug not problems with them not coming out. With regards to the threads though...does it sound like they could be stripped? It still tightens and loosens just like it should until its almost out.

Hey thanx for the link, that does actually help alot. I think i'm just not going to screw with it myself and instead take it somewhere. Do regular shops know what's going on with these plugs or should i take it to a dealer?

This plug situation makes no sense at all. I would think the jamnut seperated from the shield. Whether it breaks the porcelin flush or not, the jamnut should screw on out. Do you have the sparkplug socket with the rubber piece that helps hold on to the plug? If so, I'd try to see if you can get something around the jam nut and pull back as you unscrew. Definitely is a weird one here...... I bet ya the shield seperated leaving the porcelin whole however it's caught somehow and not letting you pull it out. Can't see any other way except(swallowing hard) stripped threads.

Looks like a standard socket with ext? Of course with the socket having rubber inside. You can buy plug sockets with rubber boots in them. Im I missing something?

If this was the first plug you tried, you might want to just screw it back in and attach everything as before and get it to the dealer. If it's skipping/missing, have them address it. If it's running fine, just pay for a plug change and let them deal with it. Otherwise you are on your own esp. if you try to get FMC to help. Just some food for thought.

jbrew, do you happen to have a link to this tool, that I can order online? It looks to surely beat duct tape and an assortment of extentions! LOL

For the OP, I take it from your original post, that, you didn't follow the TSB for plug removal. I hate to hear this, but, from the sounds of your problem, you very well may have achieved the goal of changing plugs in your 5.4 with no problems. From where you are now with it, I advise going to a stealership. Your other choice, is to, read up and buy the tool for the shield removal. Follow the TSB and pray.

I am sorry and good luck!

Sounds like the nut portion of the plug has come separated from the porcelain. You just have to work it off and then deal with the porcelain piece inside with a pliers. But that will still leave the shield in there and you need a special tool to get it out.
I dont no how to save it. I just saved the link.
