cam question in my new engine

am getting a 4.6 jasper motor installed in my truck. wondering about cam options? should i get more aggressive cams? i had an rv cam on my mark III jetta and the difference was awesome. wondering what a more aggresive cam would do in the truck. looking to gain some hp and torque and the cam sound doesnt hurt either. I have a cat back exhaust, af1 intake and planning on troyer tune within a month or two. anyone an expert on this stuff?

Comp Cams has good stuff, but what year is the engine going in? In 99 they went to PI heads, and the cams for those heads have higher lift capability. Cams will help a good bit, esp. for some torque. Patriot makes a nice set as well that are the cheapest I have seen.

The more lumpy a cam you put in the less driveable it becomes on the street. It will have problems staying running at idle in traffic and you will be looking at expensive rockers and such to handle your cam. However they do make many streetable cams for your motor that will give it a nice kick in the pants. Just don't over do it.

Save up your penny's and do Pi swap. You will need the heads, new cams and an intake manifold from an 2001+ 4.6. It will bump the compression to about 10.5:1. If you want to spend a bit more get a stage 2 from Fox lake or Patriot.

Where they stock PI heads, and which comps did you have?

stock pi heads and #102500 cams with comp cams valve springs. 5.4L though, 4.6 would be less gain.

Yeah, Gains would prob. be similar just not the same output and your longer stroke will help on the torque. Thanks.

If engine is a jasper, yes any internal modification will void warranty.

So, where would you go to do a PI head swap on a 4.6? Would it be goin to the junkyard and pullin parts, maybe gettin a complete engine? What would you need? Heads, intake? What else? Im pretty interested in this set up, and for the cams as well.

PI intake manifold, PI heads, and a custom tune.
