mustang intake swap
mustang intake swap
hey guys im pretty new to the site. i have a question i cant find much info on.
I have a mustang throttle and ported plenum. i also have a intake manifold for one. my question is.... is it worth the swap for my f150 to the mustang manifold and throttle body? has anyone done this? im afraid of losing some low end but maybe i will gain some good hp?

I had my throttle and plenum off the other day and was comparing the manifolds and it just looked so restrictive. i know the long runners help the low end but the mustang mani couldnt hurt could it
do you care to elaborate. would it be from the loss of low end or the computer have trouble with it? just want to understand this a little better since the older 5.0 and such would swap the intakes
I dont have the info that someone else could tell you, im sure they will chime in soon, but the truck manifold was designed for torque. there was a test a while back, where the truck manifold out did the mustang across the entire powerband.

rmadison, I'm assuming you have a 4.6?
If anybody runs across that test please link it, I'd like to see it. The 4.6 PI Mustang intake isn't at all designed to high rpm power, they make a very flat torque curve down low and peak under 5k rpm, it may shift the power curve a little bit but a torque converter or gears will make that a moot point.
Planning on shifting at 7500 rpm, huh?

manifold is best for 2900 up to 7500, 6500ish is where I am aiming for, and the low torque down low is typical of any 4.6L turbo i have seen. I am building for a 1/4 mile truck so high rpm is my range.

IMO there are several intakes that would probably be better for that rpm range, but thats just my opinion... Sounds like a cool project, hope to see updates as you go along.
