Some of the 97-03's had a little slack in the throttle cable and this would cause the throttle body not to open completly when you floored the pedal. Some members placed a lead sinker, zip tie and other stuff on the end of the cable to take the slack out.

me too with zip ties but I'll be using the lead sinker method once it warms up, made for quicker throttle response.

Any chance of getting a pic up? This is the first I have heard of such. I have an 03 so sounds like this would work if I knew what and where I was working on.

The cable stretches over time, I used 2 zip ties on mine, my brother used a scotch lock (with the metal part removed) on his 1997 F-150. At first it makes it feel like you have alot more power, but after awhile you get used to new pedal position. Throttle responce is the same as you don't change anything aside from how far the throttle body will open with the pedal on the floor, but it makes driving different because with the pedal in the same place as before alot more is happening. Don't get too carried away though, I don't care to have the gas pedal too far ahead of the brake for emergancy stops.

Just get under the dash and pull up on the gas pedal, you will see a cable stick out of the top of the lever that the pedal is attached to, put your spacer material (zip tie, lead sinker, scotch lock... whatever else you can come up with) between the lever and the end of the cable and you are done. The lower the miles on your truck the less shimming you can do, because your cable hasn't stretched as much yet.

It does not give you more power for just driving around, but when you drop the hammer it has a little farther to fall.

FYI, I added 1 small zip tie and in 10k miles the end of my cable popped off leaving me on the side of the highway. Also, at the time there were only 1-2 throttle cables in inventory across the entire country. It could have taken months to get one otherwise. You'd be better off leaving it alone and instead checking the TPS voltage.

I used one cable clamp , after all , it is a cable. I didn't notice much. Maybe I need another one .

I adjusted the TPS down to .99 - I noticed that one right off the the bat . My TPS was @ 1.13 before.
