I don't know man... With that 3.55 rearend, I wouldn't even try to clean the engine compartment. The 3.30's and 4.10's are fine, but trying to clean the engine when you have 3.55's is just asking for trouble IMO.

Seriously though, although I've heard horror stories about it, I've never had a problem cleaning my engine compartment. What I do is get some engine cleaner spray, spray it all over except the PCM and fuse panel. Let it sit for a few minutes, then use a hose to rinse it off. Note that I do NOT use a powerful stream of water to rinse. I basically just wave the hose back and forth without using a nozzle. I've always been afraid that if I use a powerful nozzle, that could force water where it doesn't belong.

i cant speak for an F150 but on my explorer i used to hose it out once a month t the car wash, just leave the engine running and make sure its kinda warm when you do it.

I squirt my 5.4 when the urge occurs. There is a guide in the owners manual that reflects what not to hose down. Some common sense should advise not to use a strong stream to clean the engine.

I do not know why everybody has a ploblemo after they wash down an engine! I wash mine down once a month, especially during the winter/roadsalt months, with just soap & water from my wash bucket, I then hose down/rinse, using low pressure, & staying clear of electrical stuff. I then use my leaf blower & blow off all excess water. Never had a problem on any of my vehicles ever! I would never use any type of a pressure washer under the hood, that my friend is just asking for trouble!.....
