95 f150 - red and green lines?

I was changing the plugs, cap, and rotor on my 180k 5.0 95 and when one of the plugs loosened on the pass. side my hand went straight through 2 tubes, one red and one green - they just broke like twigs.

One of the lines goes up to the egr (I think) valve, and the other goes over to a big black coffee can looking thing on the pass. fender.

Any ideas what these are and if I need to worry about them?

Sorry I'm just learning stuff on this truck, used to dealing with older carbureted stuff.

Thanks for any advice.

They are vacuum lines. I would replace them ASAP. You will have un-metered air entering the intake system. Also your EGR and EVAP systems will throw a trouble code and your check engine light will go on. The truck also will not run right.

alot of times you can get away with just sleeving a piece of rubber hose over the vacuum lines. as long as you don't use clamps because they will break even more.

Red = Plenum/vacuum(source) to Regulator.
Green = EVR to EGR (valve hood)

Yea , you can sleeve them with rubber & mineral spirits- per Ford Service Manual.

I would replace them when their that brittle. That's considered - bad.

Thanks guys. I now know what the egr valve and vac lines are. It was a clean break, so I bought some tees and a 3 length of vac line at autozone. What ended up working the best was using a few of those vac nipples with the solid ends snipped off enabling them to be used as a sleeve.

At some point I'll trace everything and replace with new but for now it's working.

Preciate the help!
