The 460 is the way to go. V10's are not worth the trouble. When it comes down to raw guts and lots of power the 460 is by far the best.

460, it will bolt in easier, no custom mounts, you have the twin A arm thing but you cab buy helpers for an f150 that beef up the front end for plowing, lift it slightly as well. overall the 460 will be much cheaper and easier. my friend is putting a 12v cummins in his 95. they have a conversion kit and they explain what should be done to the front end for the extra weight. search for ford/cummins on google and you should find it and show what is needed for parts to handle the extra engine weight. also look into a stronger driveline...

To the OP, a 460 will fit right in. Add some F-250 front springs and you'll be set.
My eyebrows raised when 7.3L and 7.5L was a valid comparison between a gasser and a diesel engine.

That tells nothing about the size difference in reality.

I'd stick with a 351W stroked to 408 really. I know the OP doesn't have one of those being dealt to him, but all the power of a 460 without the gas guzzling.

Anyone know if the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same for all years 460? I just bought an '88 3/4 ton 2wd with the EFI 460 and C6 I would really like to put something with OD behind it. The 4.11 gears are not very highway friendly.

The E4OD does that require a computer to run it and can a guy use a Baumann trans controller to run it independent? What does the E4OD need to come out of to bolt up to the 460?
