Are They All The Same?

i have a 1938 Ford 2ton the i'm restoring into a hotrod and i want to put a farily big engine in it. i'm using the real body not a fiberglass one so its heavy, and i was wondering can i only put a certian engine in it made for trucks or are they all the same?

there were alot of different "modern" modular motors

97-2000.5 4.6 non PI
2000.5-2003 4.6 PI w/ traditional throttle
2004-2008 4.6 PI w/ fly by wire

97-2003 5.4 2v w/ traditional throttle
2004-08 5.4 3v w/ fly by wire

whats an engine that doesn't have a lot of electrical, and will give a lot of power. is fuel injected or carb better

Not alot of electrical you might look at the I6 from the previous 90's body truck or the 351 from the same years. and that would be with a distributor, and injected if you get one from 89 or newer

they make carb intakes and distributor setups for the modulars now.

a 302 or 351 Windsor with a C-6 or AOD trans is a fairly common swap.

a 460 with a stroker kit and a dual carb tunnel ram will yield lots of power

what engine did it have originally? what kind of factory motor mounts are on the frame? if you have the Y-block motor mounts (2 on the bellhousing and one on the front timing cover) than you will be limited without a conversion crossmember of some kind

If your going to start a frame from scratch, then you can put anything you want in it.... just keep it ford! least electrical: distributor and carb. More electrical, modern and cool: injection. Your choice of style.

I agree, look for a donor truck and just rebuild the drivetrain that's allready set up for the frame
