Smile Need A Little Advice.

Hello everyone! I have the option to buy a complete lightning motor with trans complete; wireloom pcm etc for only 5,5oo. I currently have a 2002 5.4l in my truck right now. My question is would it be cheaper to take the engine I have now and build the motor, then buy a lightning supercharger assembly? or buy the lightning motor and build the motor? is their going to be any difference in power between the two build motors? Sorry for all the question! Thanks -George.

thats just a little less than I have in my entire engine build, and it runs MUCH Better than a stock lightning engine.

yes, I want to build up a lightning motor... the reason is my truck will soon have a long travel suspension kit installed 22 inches stapped running 37s. I want it to take all the abuse I can give it.

I read it three times and it looks like he wants to build the the engines to take more power than a stock engine? $5500.00 for a complete engine, tranny & PCM is one hèll of a deal. Buy that stick it in the truck and call it a day.......

Ditto. Throw the stock system in and call it a day. It'll run all day long with a stock setup. I've been wanting to do that to mine since the day I got it!

Now, if you plan to build one anyways, why not just start with the motor you've got? For the same money you *might* be able to build one that'll out-perform the L motor, but is it going to be worth the headaches? After seeing everything Neal went through a few years back, I'm not sure I'd ever go that route!!

The other advantage is that if you ever broke something on the L motor, it's just a simple trip to the Ford dealership away. Not always the case with a custom built motor...

I would build the stock motor. That way you know what youve got, and can get the same amount of power out of your original motor as you would if you built the L motor. If you start with your stock motor then you have 5500 more to work torward throwing at it. By the time you build the L motor youve done pretty much the same thing with your stock. I say this expecting you to build with new pistons, rods, crank , cams, port and polish heads that sort of thing.
