Not to be rude, but do you want to go from a 5.4 to a 4.6 or vice versa? If you want to go from a 4.6 to a 5.4, that would make sense. In that case, rephrase your statement to:

Can I replace a 4.6 triton with a 5.4?

And if you want the opposite, then you my friend need to stay off the crack.

hence the name "lildemom" maybe shes just looking for better gas mileage and doesnt care about power. But then again why own a huge expedition, just trade it in for something smaller..

i doubt the 4.6 exp. gets better mileage, it would have to work a lot harder to move.

Maybe the 5.4L is toast and they found a good deal on a 4.6L ?. Just a thought..

But still - No way in hell would I do it, theres quite a few 5.4L motors around if you know where to look.

So what's the deal lildemom, why do you want to swap the 5four out for a 4six?

stupid me let somebody change the plugs for me not that i couldn't do it myself but it's a headache anyways they dropped a bolt and they didn't blow off the engine and i guess mud and rocks fell into the engine and when they started it up a rod went threw the block and the guy told me he could get me a 4.6 which is cheaper then . 5.4 and yes i would rather have more POWER but he said a 4.6 would still line up with the tranny i wanted a second opinion thats why i asked, but before anyone asks no there was no rod knock i drove it there and expected to drive it out.

Don't do that , you'll regret it. Specially in a heavy expy.

car-part.com is a great resource for finding a motor close to home. It's what allot of people use when locating a used engine.

Go to that website and type in your zip code and they find you a motor close to home.

Look for a 99-03 5.4L . That's what you want and find a different mechanic. He's not doing whats best for you or that vehicle.

Ditto. You can but there's no way in the world I would let them do that. If the mechanic's shoddy workmanship broke the motor, he should be making every attempt to repair or replace it at no charge to you. I would not, under ANY circumstances, allow hit to replace the 5.4 with a 4.6. IIRC, you'd be giving up about 1/3 of the power you had with the 5.4.
