Squeaky pulley/belt?

My DD is a 95 2wd with 178k on the 5.0 engine. At idle there is something under the hood that chirps/sqeaks and from past experience I'd say belt/pulley related.

Is there a common item at fault? The belt is cracked and definately needs replacing (just inherited the truck) but in case one of the pulleys is at fault for the noise I'll just go ahead and do both.

For the record I only have experience with my 69 f100 302 v-belts.

Thanks for any reply

Tom

most likely a tensior pretty common to go out chirps and sqeaks are early signs but it can be any bearing on the belt set up ac pump, alt, water, power steering or one of the 2 idler pullys probly those cost $27 at auto zone and found anyware and i think 27 a rip off for what they do

hope that helps

yea, chances are its an idler pulley, and if you say your belt is worn/cracked that would most likely be the cause of the squeaking

go to the home page of this site. there is a google search bar there.
search for broken belt tensioner there. there's some good information there.
i couldn't find the thread i was looking for but i recomend you take the belt off and check the bearings on evrything you can spin by hand. with the composite timing chain cover on these engines you don't want one of the bearings to sieze
