squeeky belt

i have a 95 with a 5.0, about a month ago the squeeking got unbearable so i replaced the belt, that solved my problem until today when i started my truck, it is a very quiet squeek but enough to annoy me, it gets louder when i tap the gas very lightly but when i rev it or am driving it doesnt squeek at all, not sure if this matters but the belt is oreilly's house brand

Sometimes you can get a belt to stop squeeking by putting scouring powder on it: Comet, Ajax... I'd try it if the belt shows no cracks.

Use a good Gatorback belt next time....cheapo belts are known to squeak due to bad traction.

In the meantime, you can pick up a can of belt dressing. Start the motor, and just hold the spray over the belt and it runs along. The stuff dries and is really sticky, helps quiet squeals.

You may have a bad idler or tensioner pulley bearing as well.

ive tried belt dressing, works good for five minutes but the next time you start it up you want to stab your eardrums, very very high pitched squeek, i think it was just do to the cold weather we were having, started it today and it worked fine

Belt dressing is not a real good idea, if your belt is contaminated with oil or other foreign compounds, its trash anyway.

I do backup the idea of the abrasive application, toothpaste also works wonders and cleans up the pulleys with the micro abrasives and scratches the belt up good for traction on the pulleys, plus it washes off with water!
