Willl a 4.6L intake fit?

I've been going thru an article on a Bullitt model 4.6L Mustang. The throttle body is a dual inlet unit. Does any body know or has any body swapped this aluminum manifold to a 5.4L truck 2v SOHC engine?

The manifold wont fit as is but ive seen some places that make adapters to fit the 4.6 manifolds on a 5.4. I wouldnt bother since you'll throw away some torque if you even managed to make it work.

I really just want the throttle body to tell you the truth but I would sure like an aluminum intake to replace my plastic one. An adaptor can be fabbed to mate thottle body unless one is available.

make a plate to adapt the lightning plenum then its much easier done that way.

They just make soooooo much for a 4.6 cause it's more of them out there. I'm old school where no matter what you drove there was speed parts for it. Truck or car there was the same ol' engine. Now these modulars are damn near model specific. i'd love to put 4v heads on but it seems easier to just hot rod the vehicle it came in. These things were better in the prototype stage even when we were changing head gaskets every week.

Bear in mind that if you use a Mustang Intake manifold on your 5.4 the throttle body will be pointing towards the passenger side fender and the throttle linkage will not fit. Go to the dealer and ask for the gasket for the throttle body that you like and compare it to a 70mm truck gasket. If they match you might be able to fab up a linkage that will make it work. You money would be better spent getting a larger truck throttle body for your vehicle that will bolt right up. Now unless you port the elbow to mate perfectly with the larger throttle body you are wasting your money in the first place.

The one I would like to use has a dual plate throttle body. If you have one of these it's like going from a one to a two barrel carb per se. I've seen a lot of different ways air was introduced to an engine working in carbs. If you have a way to split the air into more channels you increase the velocity and the total amount. The engine will be used mainly for in town driving so the cam selection is on the mild side. I don't really like the plastic material and would prefer aluminum. I think BBK makes an aluminum one that has an access panel for porting. I've found several places that can do porting and one is local.

If you were to take the elbow off the intake manifold that you have on the truck you would see a separator in the intake. Ford has taken care of that. What you need, is to increase the opening to the intake. But that in itself is useless if you cannot take advantage of the increased air flow. Unless the heads are ported you are not going to see any justifiable gains by using the Mustang set up. A set of ported heads with appropriate cams will give between 80 to 100 more hp. The throttle body by itself won't give you squat. The diameter of the elbow on the truck is 70mm. A 75 mm TB is useless unless you open up the elbow so that the incoming air doesn't hit the edge of the narrower elbow. Once it is gone past the elbow it is split in two and goes straight down then bends around the in the lower intake then up to the individual runners into the cylinder heads. So increasing the velocity at the throttle body won't accomplish much as it has a long way to go and it slows down again when it bounces off the intake and heads where the gaskets meet.

the truck plenum and 75mm throttle body will flow more than a mustang intake plenum will the truck plenums are hella better flow. going to a twin blade throttle body with all the modifications ud have to go with its not worth it in the end result wih HP gains.

the plenum will go to point either direction.. the intake on the crown victoria's and lincoln town cars both point towards the drivers side.

JMC & Faster thanx a lot. That's why I'm asking. I've never been in a truck motor. I may even give up the 4v project. I can get all kinds of 2v modifications locally. I got a price of $2500 for completely ported and ready to bolt on heads and the other shop said they would want to pull the motor to change the heads. If I'm gonna get 80-100 extra horses the total cost will be below the most inexpensive super charging. Also I won't be having boost problems the one head shop explained. Now I would like to have the bottom end be able to take it. I'm not at all happy with the rods and want to replace them along with the pistons. I can get an aluminum block and steel crank locally. Living around detroit has some advantages besides ducking bullets. lol
