I searched...

Is the power difference between the 4.6L and 5.4L that big? Im not trying to race, but I like having low end torque, something my Dodge 5.7L Hemi has none of.

Also, what is the fuel mileage like between the two different engines. This would most likely be a 4x2 or 4x4 Supercab. Im undecided whether I want a 4x4, but I am leaning that way.

Thanks,
Joey

Oh yeah, this would be about an 02-04.

the hemi is decent down low but just makes more up top. whereas the 5.4 makes more down low and decent on top. I don't always get the whole shot against the hemi's with my 5.4

Def. get the 5four if your wanting low end. The 4.6 is ok for daily commuting, or maybe in a lighter reg cab 2wd, in a heavier subercab with 4wd they are a bit of a dog though.

As far as gas milage, they are pretty much the same. I think my new 5four gets juuuuuust a *touch* less than my old 4.6, but there is to much of a difference between my old truck and new one to really make a fair comparison. (body config, gearing, and 2v vs 3v)

Im just wanting a daily driver. Ive only taken the Dodge to the track one time. Its got a magnaflow and a homemade intake. I ran a best of 15.44 @ 87mph.

Im not real concerned about speed, just something to get around. Im mainly looking for a cheaper payment. Ive never had an F150 but have heard great things about them and have been wanting to try one.

Thanks for the help,
Joey

Sorry I forgot to add this in my last post, but the main problem I have with my truck now is how it drives. It has the drive by wire crap and has absolutely no throttle response. It drives me crazy. It just feels like it has no power until you get it up to 3500rpm and then it pulls pretty good. I just want it feel better mainly.

Also, how are the auto transmissions in the Fords? I also dislike the one in my Dodge. It has been trouble free, but it feels like it belongs in an Oldsmobile. I have a transgo shift kit in it too, but the computer has compensated for that. It just shifts way too much and isnt really doesnt shift when I feel that it needs too.

If your used to the drive by wire you will love the pre 04 F150s then. Cable straight from the go pedal to the throttle body.

I feel ya on the drive by wire...I HATE that chit. Stick a brick on the gas pedal, run inside and make a ham and cheese sammich, then walk outside and jump in the truck and it might be starting to move by then.

Like most any vehicle out there, the tranny can be a little slow/soft on shifts, but it isnt OVERLY bad. My old truck with the 4.6/4R70W combo would shift about whenever I thought it should. But the shifts really did kill be when I wanted to go fast. But thats about like any vehicle out there made, which are pussified from the factory for the everyday 65 year old man that putts around....

Thanks again for the help guys.

After reading more, I am kind of worried about the plug blowing problem. Is it just a matter of time before it happens, or is it an uncommon thing?

I know its the internet and when people have problems like that they stumble across a site like this and post it. It makes it seem widespread, but Im sure there are hundreds of thousands of trouble free 5.4L's.

my 2000 5.4 has 180,000 miles and no plug blow outs as of yet. If you are worried about you can get an 03 which has the 8 threads in the head as opposed to 4 on the older ones, 97-02. I'd say its equivalent to dodge truck trannies.

Mine is.

On the dodge boards I am on there are some pretty quick ones. Here is a website I made from compiling some timeslips...

This is from DodgeTalk.com btw.
