plugs and wires upgrade!

I'm looking to change my plugs and wires but know very little about it. Any info from products to benefits to install options will be appreciated.

Wires? Which engine do you have - the only 2003 that has wires is the V6. Plugs and wires are easy to do on the V6, the hardest part is routing the new wires around the back of the engine from the coil pack to the drivers' side plugs.

Use OEM Motorcraft plugs and wires, along with dielectric grease. Factory plugs and wires are generally good to at least 80k.

If your 2003 is a V8, and you know very little, you may be best off having the job done by a pro.

I had planned on having it professionally done I just needed some info. I did not know that only the v6 had wires. I have the 5.4.

I am approaching 80k miles and I'm just fighting for fuel economy. Figured id try the inexpensive stuff before tune and intake.

The 5.4 has the COP (coil on plug) system. No wires, no external coil packs or distributor. 80K is about time for plugs. Use OEM Motorcraft Platinums. If it needs COP's, OEM's are frightfully expensive and many aftermarket COP's are garbage. A lot of people get 200k + out of the original COP's. There really aren't too many mods that are cost effective to get better gas mileage other than drive with a lighter foot.

Yeh , get the OEM COP's - Kevin gets his COP's from the same supplier Ford does, that's why they have such a good record -there the cheapest and the best IMO -

x2 on the OEM plugs and COPs. Most aftermarket ignition products are borderline junk...

lol no. very simple. I found them at autozone. Someone said they were "frighteningly expensive" but they are only like 3.50 a plug from autozone... is this by any chance the wrong thing?

I'm thinking they said the OEM coils are expensive and they are jbrew gave a link for coils that have worked for allot of people that are much less. The coils are the weak link in the ignition system and while you could get more out of them they are know to slowly decrees in there performance and probably shoud be replaced at about 100k

They should be a little over $3 - atleast , that's what I heard someone paying for them a few weeks ago on here.
