2000 Ford Lightning Engine Change

I'm a new member and I'm looking into buying a 2000 Ford Lightning. The seller tells me that it has a new re-manufactured Ford engine which was installed 12000 miles ago and that the everything runs perfectly.

Here's my questions.

1. Does 2000 Lightning gets must have a 2000 model engine replacement or can it be replaced with 2003 and 2004 engine?

2. How do I check if it was replaced with a 2003 or 2004 engine?

Of course, I'd prefer it have 2003 or 2004 engine because of the fix on spark plug threads.

Any suggestion and advice would be appreciated.

Archie

I believe 2000 -2004 will work.

Reman tags are here -

BTW - Tags are dated , I have one. Also , a reman motor doesn't necessarily mean NEW heads as well. I had to take them to court to get new heads on mine.

If it was installed by or supplied by ford then it would be correct for the model year...as in 4 thread plug holes. It would also be remanned, never new just to clairfy and an 04 wont work due to the different engine design using variable cam timing. You can crawl under the truck and look on the side of the block for a reman tag, its aluminum with blue writing on it with a date of rebuild - not istallation date.

"O4 wont work due to the different engine design using variable cam timing"....does this mean 00 to 03 will work?

yah Jbrew, but the idea is it wont be a drop in plug and play. You would have to reprogram the PCM....

An 04 5.4 has variable cam timing, at least in canada and I didnt think they ever made an 04 lightning with a 2 valve 5.4. You can drop in an 03 engine for sure because they're the same, same heads except the late 03's with the fully threaded plugs, all 5.4's have forged cranks but I would think the lightning pistons would have a different compression ratio and maybe different cams.

They put the same motor year and everything in a changeout if left up to Ford. It would have to be under special circumstances if a different year anything was put in..

I thought that 2004 (Heritage)was the last year for the lightning. http://www.edmunds.com/used/2004/for...94/prices.html

You are correct to my knowledge and I believe they all also had 2 valve heads (stock at least).
