Sorry guys, but I have to ask...

I am thinking about maybe getting a 2002-2003 Ford F150 Super Cab FX4 Truck. (by the way, I am using my buddies profile on here) And I am concerned about what kind of mileage that 5.4L will get.

So please (because I am in a hurry and dont have the time to search (I am at work)) tell me what kind of gas mileage I can expect from that engine city and highway.

The responses on this on here generally run from about 8 mpg on the low end up to as high as 21-22 maybe on the high end. 15 average maybe if it kept up well.

Honestly, if you are going into it with only one thing on your mind - gas mileage - ya probably shouldn't do it.

I have never gone under 14 mpg, but never better than 18 or 19 mpg.

I do not have a 4x4, just 2wd and tow package. usually haul 3 kids and their stuff

winter:
235/70r16's (stock baby coach wheels) = better milage
winter oxygenated gas = worse mileage

summer:
245/75R15's (these are considerably bigger for mountain roads) = worse milage
normal fuel = better milage

15-16 in the city and 18-19 on the hiway. But I agree with jmg-in-alaska, if you just want a 4 wheel drive but want good (better than these things) gas mileage, get a Toyota.

My 4x4 on average 16 mpg. A tuner and a light right foot might do better

I will disagree, mileage king would have to go to the chev's. My ol truck bieng well maintained yearly averages 17 mpg? maybe. Winter is not the time to guage, summer is flirting with 20 mpg. As with anything, city mileage sux, 11 mpg is to be expected, but they like the highway, like I said, 18-20 is not a fairy tale.

With restriction at a minimum now (headers, high flows and an intake) everything polished inside , also new O2's and EGR system - I'm barley squeaking 14mpg city. I'm not light on the foot at times, it could possibly be better. No highway driving since I've updated/modified the components.

have a 97 5.4 and it gets 12 to 13 city, 14 hwy
had a 01 supercrew 5.4, 12 to 13 city, 14 hwy

have a 07 chevy avalanche 5.3, 14 to 16 city, 18 to 20 hwy (if i go 60 it will get 22, i just cant go 60 for very long)
have a 07 escalde 6.2 (403 hp, awd) gets 12 to 13 city havent taken on hwy yet

one thing i will say is that chevy has a computer that tells average and instant mpg, driving habit play a huge roll. when i first go it i was getting 16 to 17 city because i watched it all the time, know that i dont watch it i get . i average 14.5 to 15.5 most of the time. when highway driveing the difference between 65 mph and 70 is 1 to 2 mpg. going 80 drops it down 16 to 17
