Oil Change

I've got a 04 4.6 stx, planning on doing an oil change tomorrow, I haven't had the truck very long and was just wondering how much oil it takes...also I'm planning on switching to synthetic is there anything special I should know?

Somewhere between 6 and 7 quarts with a filter. Put in 6, fire it up for a minute, shut it down, let it drain down for 15 minutes, then check it and add as necessary to put it between the add and full lines.

If you switch to synthetic, stick with 5W20 or 0W20 and use a quality filter such as a Motorcraft, Wix (NAPA Gold), Purolator, or Mobil 1. Fram and Fram-made filters (STP, Pennzoil) are garbage and should be avoided, they don't have adequate anti-drainback valves.

Shifty-

The Murray's here is cool. They carry Motorcraft. They swapped two sets of Motorcraft plugs for me when Global sent me the wrong ones TWICE!! I even called and personally talked with Kevin the second time. - There not in the plug business anymore lol.. He's better off just selling COP's anyway - But yea, that one over by you should carry Motorcraft supplies.

Race? You want to get spanked that bad?

Maybe you should race my daughters 4.2L first

You can get them at Wal-Mart, or spend a few more dollars and go to a Ford dealer and get one. Wix is fine too, its just Frams are probably the cheapest filter you could get for a vehicle. If you get the $9 one you will be ok, it has quality construction, but the others are crap.

It *IS* a relabeled Wix.

Synthetic or not, 5W30 does *NOT* meet Ford specs for an '04 V8. The only xW30 I've seen that does meet specs is Amsoil 0W30.
