I need a radiator

I have a 99 4.6 and am in need of a new radiator...just a matter of time before the plastic res tanks take a dump. Any suggestions on brand vs OEM on a replacement? Is this a good time to step up to a heavier duty unit..thanks in advance for any feedback.

What makes you think the plastic tanks are on their way out?? Unless you spend big bucks on a custom or aluminum unit, I think that's all you're gonna get. I upgraded mine to a dual core radiator that's a direct replacement, but every single one I found had plastic tanks.

The tanks arent technically going out...where they crimp the tanks to the core i have a pretty good leak. I was advised that repair isnt really an option and its pretty cost effective to just drop a new unit in...and i wouldnt use stop leak on my cooling system..ever. Had the same thing happen on my Jeep and got an all metal replacement but what you guys are saying makes sense..seems like all the stuff i have found so far is plastic tanks or crazy expensive. With that being said is it better to just go with a Ford part or do the aftermarket parts perform any better?..from what i can see there is not much of a price delta.

i bought 2 double core radators the for $150 each.
good luck.
make sure to put the right kind of antifreze back in it.
look in your owners manual for type.

I myself found the dealership to be cheapest by far, 222 bux vs 385 elsewhere. They are pretty much all the same, Ford is made by or was Visteon I believe, Modine makes em for other suppliers and I hear they too are good. It will basically depend on which is cheaper.

Check local radiator shops. Mine was sub-$200 and it's a Visteon I believe!! Has "Made in U.S.A." stamped on it!!

Just tell them you want a radiator for a 1999 F-250 LD (F-150 body style). It's the two core radiator. It's HUGE, but bolts into the stock location.
