Need help - drive by wire
Need help - drive by wire
Hey guys its my first post here. I’ve got an 08 FX4 and usually when driving at around 30MPH and the RPM is at like 2K the engine revs up to about 4K for a second out of nowhere. The car doesn’t accelerate quicker but the engine just revs. Anyone know if this is a common problem and will a reflash fix it or is it a problem with the pedal? The truck is very responsive and no codes are set.

There is no way that an f-150 is going to spin the wheels at that speed. At least not a stock one. So for your truck to rev to 4000 rpm from 2000rpm something has to slip. It has to be something between the bellhousing and the extension housing. As it is an 08 listen to Steve. Have the dealer look at it.

An opinion only.
Based on certain knowledge, the motor rpm is a problem in it'self and needs to be addressed before you have an accident from runnaway uncontrolled throttle condition.
The truck not accelerating faster may be a second problem or even a safety from a runaway problem. It could have shut down the EPC solenoid so there was no fluid pressure to work with.
If you had ever saw the factory video lesson on throttle by wire, you would see the discription of a very complex softeware control system for the hardware.
Be guarded in driving until it's looked at.
If no trouble found comes back, still be guarded until your sure it is fixed.
It's happened before.
Document each time it happens so there is at least a base info history to deal with.
