Cylinder 4 Misfire
Cylinder 4 Misfire
Greetings. I have a 1998 F-150 4X4 Supercab shortbed with a 4.6 and 4R70W. I bought it with right at 137K miles, and it is now right at 145K. Been a great truck, but it seems to use a quart of oil in about 1,000 miles. I'm not real thrilled about that, but I could live with it, up until now. I picked up a dead miss in the engine today, and eventually got the tell-tale flashing engine light. Got home and pulled the codes, and it came back with a misfire in Cylinder 4. I believe Cylinder 4 is on the driver's side, closest to the firewall, correct? I have very large hands, and don't enjoy changing plugs, but I'm going to do my best to pull that one plug and diagnose myself. So.... Just how hard is it to pull that one plug? It looks like a royal PITA. Should I just pay someone with 'normal hands' to do it? Also, I believe there is an EGR line that runs in front of that plug. Should I disconnect that line at the throttle body to gain access, or leave it alone?
As always, I thank you in advance.

nope cyl 4 is the one on the passenger side all the way back. if the plugs have never been chaged...good luck because those heater hoses that run over top of plug 4 sometimes drip coolant down into the chamber and seize that plug in there. that could be causeing your Mis-fire. i chaged all my plugs at 98,000 and that thing was caked in there. its not that hard to get it out just a weird angle and if it coolant has drippd on it it could take a lil bit more force.
Yea, Got a misfire again on #4 pulled plug boot and it had lots of antifreeze down in there.I tighten the heater hose above it again, I really hope that is where the antifreeze is coming from. The plug was totally soaked down in the head.So it took a very clean rage and stuck down in there to clean the hole where the plug sits. What really blows my mind is it is only like 2-3 full turns before the plug gets tight, must not be many threads in the head.I read that there is only like 4 threads for the plug in a my truck 97 f150 4 x 4 with 4.6
