fuel injectors
fuel injectors
Well just got a letter from ford, apparantly they have extended my warranty for 11years or 100k miles for any failure of the injectors (fuel). that can stay open or closed and cause engine and or catalytic failure. letter is wierd in that it says the injectors are covered, but not clear about whether they will cover the damage caused by the injectors. Go figure, hydrolock, cats. I had one fail already and blew out my cat. Lucky it didnt trash the engine block with hydroloc. Anyone else get this letter covering 2005 Ford 5.4 with three valve????
This is the first time I'm getting involved with this forum.I have a 2005 lariet screw with the 5.4 and I was interested in the kind of symptons you were getting with this injector problem. On several occassions now there has been a back fire while driving. Also has somewhat of a rough idle.Been too the dealer up here ontario canada and all they tell me is that if there is anything wrong it would show up in the diagnostics code which it hasn't. Even through these issues I LOVE this truck and get great comments on the interior! CHEERS Merrychristmas
I had my engine replaced at the first oil change (3k). Ford said it had a hole in the cylinder head so they replaced everything (new long block). I now have 22k and they engine light is on. I too received this letter. I can't wait to my warranty is up. time to replace with a new 08 Tundra.

I tried to call Ford this morning, They said they are closed, funny it is the business hours listed, and the time is correct. I called local dealership to get some answers, and they acted like they never heard of this letter. They finally brought it up in their computer, and would not make any commitment to whether anything other than the injectors were covered. What a fantastic Car company, they know they have a problem and all they want to cover is the piece that could cause major damage in the engine. Kind of like putting a finger in the dyke, hopping that the dyke doesnt break. I know, more complaining, but the more I deal with this, the less I will ever consider buying this product again.

"PLEASE NOTE: This extended coverage program only applies to stuck fuel injectors and related damage caused by stuck fuel injectors (emphasis added). During diagnosis, if other concerns not related to stuck open or closed fuel injectors are found, they are not covered under this program and are the responsibility of the customer if the vehicle has exceeded the time and mileage of any other applicable warranty coverage."
I would say this means Ford will cover any parts that are obviously damaged as a result of a faulty injector, but you could have some problems trying to get Ford to cover the costs of any part failures that are not clearly attributable to injector failure.

I visited my truck yesterday and they have my engine parts laying across 2 bays.Ford finally okd the engine and sent one ,mechanic said it looked like it had been dropped from an airplane and block had crack in it.More wasted downtime.I took a bunch of pics but don't know how to post them here.
He said these injectors are junk and they have already replaced about 4 or 5 engines, why they have screwed around for 1 month today I don't know.Said a new engine is due Monday and he should have it done mid week.He said engine hydrolocked from too much fuel and bent three rods they also broke 3 plugs which had seized up in the head.He says it will be good as new but I'm going to worry about the truck till I trade it off.Only had 38k and I bought it new.
Anyone that has problems better park it quick or be ready for a fiasco
Thanks

2005 Expedition
Hi All,
Searching the net for my problem got me to this F150 board. I have a 2005 Expedition and I got the injector letter.
30,000 miles no problems at all. Yesterday, check engine light came on so I drove additional 12 miles to my mechanic. It was sputtering a while, but still got up to 70.
Mechanic called and said your motor is very sick. He had trouble getting it to turn over and had gas coming out of tailpipe. He felt this was an injector problem.
I had the vehicle towed to a dealer and the dealer confirmed hydro lock and they have ordered a short block.
Since the dealer did not discuss cost I am sure this is all being paid for by Ford but this was completely out of the blue.
One, I wonder how many of these are taking place around the country, and two, how can any of us trust this motor?
I will keep you posted on what happens.
