Oil dipstick tube help

Oil dipstick tube help

98 F-150 4.6L 4x4

So, my oil dipstick tube is broke off flush at the block. (Don't ask why). I have the oil pan off and thought I would be able to tap the tube out from the inside, but it's not budging. I've sprayed it from both sides with lube spray, tapped it from the bottom of the tube, starting gently and then increasingly hard until I was afraid I might damage something else. Tried giving it a twist... no movement at all. Any more ideas folks? Thanks all!

Can't you get an extractor in the broke off tube from the outside? An EZ-out maybe? There's just two rubber o-rings holding it in..

I have an almost new one if you can find me a 5.4L TUBE I'll swap yuh..

How did you get the oil pan off ? You drop the axle?

Loaned my EZ out set to a neighbor. He ran off with his girlfriend and my tools, last summer.

It's a 4x4, so I dropped the crossmember that holds the front differential up, disconnected the drive shaft to the transfer case, pulled the two bolts that hold the diff. up and lowered it down on a jack just enough to get the pan out, but not enough to stress the output universals.

Truly I though this thing would tap out easily and it ain't!

A thought just occurred (maybe my first)... is the tube that I see on the inside connected to the part of the tube that was on the outside or are they two separate tubes, pressed in from different sides?

I had the same problem last year. I used an easy out from the outside, a pair of channel locks and a hammer. don't let the name "easy out" fool you though. It's a royal pain to get that thing out. It's going to take a lot of time an patience. I would screw the easy out into the tube wich ended up breaking off right where it goes down into the oil pan, and it would just spin. So i knew it was loose but it wouldn't budge. After a million wacks with the hammer on the vice grips and quite a few scrapes of the knuckles, it finally came out. Then the way ford designed the tube you actually have to take the exhaust manifold off to get the new one back in. Well I was running low on that thing I mentioned earlier, patience, so I cut the tube with a pipe cutter and got a small piece of thick rubber hose. Put the piece into where it goes in the oil pan and connected the two with the rubber tube, and some hose clamps. If you chose to do it this way be sure to use an extra clamp right where the two pieces of tube come together otherwise after a while and all the heat, the rubber will flex and the tubing will become off-center. then when you pull your dipstick out to check your oil, you won't be able to get it back in. so remember that third clamp! Almost forgot...PB Blaster. Lots of PB Blaster. just try not to get too much down in the tube or get an oil change right away. Oh and the tube is one piece.
