Cool

HI!... Worst comes to worst you can remove the tranny with the TQ converter still connected to the flexplate. The TQ has 4 bolts (4R70-W) that hold it to the flexplate. Other wise the TQ just slides on splines. After the tranny comes off you can easily get to the 4 bolts.

Okay, I am officially a moron, I kept checking back for replies and found none only to find out right now that all of the replies are on page two. The engine is truly seized up. My half inch breaker bar and properly fitted socket would tighten the nut when cranked clockwise and loosen it when rotated counter clockwise. Big drag. So I moved forward with this in mind praying that the torque converter would slide out with the engine while it was still attached to the flywheel.

After fighting the most horrendous 7 bolts that hold the transmission (which is a 4R100) to the engine, a lot of shaking and jacking, the torque converter slid out just as hoped. After more fighting to get the engine out of the engine compartment (since the torque converter added a good 6 inches to the length of the assembly) and sadly puncturing the AC condenser (I have a replacement on order through ebay) everything is out. The bolts were easily accessed, and the torque converter came off in a pinch!

At this point the old engine is out and on an engine stand and the reman longblock is on an engine stand as well. Hopefully tomorrow I can begin to swap components over if it stops snowing a bit.

I have removed just about everything in the engine realm of things and can supply photos and some descriptions of areas you may be facing if that would be helpful for anyone. Let me know. I will update as things move forward.

Okay guys, I need a few photos of the front of your f150 or Expedition 5.4l engines from 1997-2003 so that I can identify bracketry and such.

Everything has been swapped to the Longblock and the engine is going back in today.

Thought I should give a quick summary. The engine is in, and it runs great. I have just over 300 miles on my 500 mile break in process. Thanks for all of the insight.
