7.3L powerstroke

I know this isn't the site for this but I had to turn to the experts. My buddy has a 7.3 powerstroke in a 96 or 97 F350 i forget which year, anywho, he said when its cold it misfires and the CEL comes on then goes away. He tried to pull codes but it says passed. Any way to retrieve the code being thrown when the CEL is being lit?

Thanks for ANY info!

Dustin

it misfires??? diesels dont have spark plugs. is he waiting to start it? if not that would make some werid noise. if it has glow plugs those just get really hot when u turn the key on and help the frist few strokes combust then they turn off diesel works off compression like 32:1:0 so it needs no plugs. if he doesnt have glow plugs there a plate before the intake that get super super hott and makes the air coming in hotter so it will combust easyer.

Well hes has come up with3 possibilities, cam position sensor, TPS, or the high pressure oil pump is starting to go since diesel injectors have oil help to operate but why would it only come up as a mis and not total cylinder miss....?
