quick differential quesion

Question quick differential quesion

what does it mean when you say, overhauling an LSD

i know the lsd is limited slip differential

but i dont know what the overhaul part is

It might be replacing the clutches that do the work in the limited slip... or it might mean replacing the whole LS unit.

It probably means replacement of the clutch packs, springs, and bearings. Basically like any other differential that you rebuild..

yeah that must be it, i looked up the LSD on how stuff works and it says it uses springs and clutches unlike the open diff. thanks

how hard is it to get and replace a diff. in a truck, i was thinking about getting a bigger gear ratio for higher rear wheel torque, but i dont think their is anything really wrong with the one i have

If you don't have the experience (and tools...dial calipers, micrometers, etc...) then don't even think about doing this yourself. If the gears are not set up properly, you can destroy them in as little as 5 miles. Yes, seriously.
