Code P0301 And A Really Rough Ride

After a week vacation I started the truck and it felt like a really rough ride. I brought it to auto zone and they pulled a P0301 code. Does this mean its on the # 1 cyl? And do you think changing the plug and coil pack will fix it?

Really need a diagnostic scanner to read misfires and other areas before putting parts on. What size engine do you have?

cyl 1 is located on the passenger side front spark plug . make sure you clean around the wire before removing it and blow air into the hole before removing the plug look for rust on boot and plug if you sprayed the engine with water to clean it you did it

How many miles do you have on these plugs?

They very well could all need replacing. This code is definitely the # 1 cylinder. It is said that these plugs will go 100K miles. I like the better safe than sorry outlook. I get 60k out of mine and they are motorcraft parts.

Does it calm down or get worse when it warms up? My bet is the plug, or you have an arc, from a crack in the boot on your COP.

Its a 4.6 with 136k on it. I've owned it since 20,000k and it really been good to me. Will changing that plug and seeing if that is the problem hurt the truck if I dont' change the rest right now? I havent sprayed the engine down in about a year but I used to have to do it a lot because I live at the beach and my commute used to be on a sandy road. Needless to say I battle rust problems among other things.

Yea, I get about 60k out of my plugs before they start to weaken. I would say, change that plug out and see if it helps. You may have a crack in the COP boot causing an arc somewhere too.

If that fixes it change them all.

Good Luck!

Definatly change the cop also. I had a Crown Vic that had the same problem. Plugs were fine, but the cop was bad. Be prepared to start replacing the others also. One goes, then they all start to go. You can get a kit from ebay pretty cheap. Autozone sell them for around $50 each.
