full throttle power...

I know that our F150s (2004-2008) are supposed to build most of its power at around 5,000 RPMs, but It seems like after the rpms get up above 3500 on my truck that the power really drops off. It seams like I am getting the most pickup out of it at about 3/4 throttle between 3K and 4K RPMs as opposed to full throttle until it shifts. Its kind of a dog when I put the pedal to the floor on the freeway to pass someone. Is there something wrong here or is this standard with our trucks? It seems like my truck doesnt like being full throttle at all....Im kinda stumped as to why this is....any thoughts?
excuse the newbness!

I was thinking that our trucks make most of the power around 3500? I could be wrong, and custom tuning will cure your to the floor lag.

Yea , this 5.4L glues you back side to the seat @ about 3600 - it's like a turbo coming to life

No thats where it makes most of its torque. The max hp: 300 is had at 5000 RPM as stated in the specs. It just feels gutless at highway speeds when you try to get up and go.

YES. I was on the interstate yesterday coming back to school after hunting, was behind a 18 wheeler. had to stomp it to pass him, and 50-75mph felt like no time at all, it roars with custom tuning/CAI. unbelievably more power then stock for that 2nd gear pass.

Thanks for the input guys. I plan on doing custom tuning in the future when I can afford it. I just wanted to make sure it isnt something wrong with my truck. Sounds like its a standard thing with these trucks from what Im hearing from you guys. Thanks
