engine light stays on

i replaced my stock thermostat to lower setting of 160 deg, but i'm getting engine light that stays on all the time. my truck runs smoother on lower temp setting. is there any way i can bypass this engine light to reset it. is it a good idea? 2005 f-150 4.6 engine

The PCM looks at coolant temp.
Your too low now and it is being detected.
Live with the CEL.
If this is an attempt to get more power, it works for racing but not a good idea for a truck or a car, and long term wear that results as well as accumulations of sludge that brings on other service problems later on.
Normal working temp. as designed by FORD is 195 to as high as 210.

Loose the gimmick thermostat and reinstall the stock unit.

All you're doing is wasting fuel, increasing emissions, and generally causing your engine to wear faster.

The CEL will likely go away when you fix the thermostat.
