New purchase

So I am getting ready for a new truck... It is a 2005 F150 XLT with 20,000 Miles and it is $16000. It has the 5.4 and some extras already. Everybody happy with their Ford? Any major problems with this motor or this truck in general that anyone is having?

Is it me or is that incredibly cheap for a 2005 5.4 XLT with only 20,000 miles? I'd be a bit worried if I were you.

We bought our 2005 F150 5.4L 4x4 Supercab XLT one year ago this last October. It had 28,000 highway miles and we paid around 22,000 for it. Which was slightly below the book price at that time. Apart from a high pitch whine that occurs only when temps are below freezing... we love the truck. It rides nice and pulls our horse trailer with no problem. Gas mileage is good on the highway we have had as high as 18 mpg; in town we average 12-14 mpg. The only other complaint I have would be the cloth seats... they are tan cloth and it stains, even with just plain water. So we are looking into seat covers for it.

Just thought of one other thing... we were having issues with some hesitation between the time the gas pedal was depressed and the time the vehicle responded to the acceleration command. We had the CPU recalibrated and that fixed that...

It does sound like you may want to have an expierienced independent mechanic look at it and make sure there isn't something wrong. Either you'll get a good deal or a piece of trouble.

x2 The small price you pay for a full inspection will save loads of headaches later on.

First thing I'd do is follow the documented procedures here for removing the spark plugs, and reinstall them with some anti-seize compound on the ground sleeve. Use some fresh dielectric grease when reinstalling the cops (coil on plugs).
