Oil Press. Question

If it is cold outside and my engine is cold my oil press. will go to zero. It will be reading fine on the gauge and all of the sudden go to zero will stay there for a min and then go back to normal. When it goes to zero the little warning light comes on. It will randomly do that till the engine warms up. Do you guys think it is actually loosing oil pressure or is it a sensor/guage malfuntion. Im thinkin it is a guage or sensor and not the oil pump crappin out. What do u think. Oh i have 10W30 in it. Do u think i should switch to a thinner oil. It only is gettin down to about 40 at night.

Get that 10W30 out of there and put 5W20 or 5W30 in it. There is a reason Ford specifies those weights. It needs the 5W for proper startup lubrication.

I'm not saying that this is what is causing the gauge issue, but you should start by using the recommended grade.

You need a new oil pressure sending switch.

He's in Louisiana. Cold there is probably only 40F.

5W20 is the (new) correct oil recommended for your truck. I wouldn't worry about the 10W30, I'd just replaced it with the correct oil at your next oil change.
