Charging Problem

I have a problem w/charging battery. Just changed alternator, old one blew the bearings. I've checked the main fuses and the 20amp in the line all okay. the battery light on the inst. panel does not lite up with the key on and engine off. I know you have to get 12v. to the alternator fields to fire it up but don't know what/where I'm missing it. Any help would be great, it's a 97' F150 Lariat.

Are your grounding staps corroded?

Check your grounding straps to the engine. Sometimes corrosion will affect performance. Also there is a battery saver mega fuse in the PDB under hood. Check to see if that is good. Look in owners manual for location.
I hate electrical probl ems. Good luck

Charging Problem

Thanks for the reply jdrozdow, I've already checked the two 175 amp fuses plus the inline 20 amp. I've redone all the grd. straps, cables on the starter, what I can't understand is why the battery lite won't come on with the eng. off and the key on. Maybe it's a dud alternator(brand new), guess I'll be pulling it again tomorrow and have it checked out.
