Just send me a link direct to the plug

Hell - until just now, I thought 04 heritage models only came with 4.6's - imagine, if you can even trust NGK's listing, that they stuck a 2V 5.4 in the last year OBS design, fer old-times sake lol

Actually, I think someone on here has mentioned having an 04 Heritage with a 5.4, but I don't know if it was the 2V or 3V.

If I'm not mistaken - The TR6 is more of a lightning plug anyway

I agree with Russ on this one. I recall that video clip of the ground shield spinning freely below the crimp. I also recall someone chiming in that the plugs were "improved" after the 2004 model year, in part, to make the crimp stronger. Since this victim's truck is an 04, it seems plausible that he has the weaker crimped plugs and one happened to loosen to the point of being sucked into the bore. We can only assume that this may be catastrophic for the head and possibly the piston. Already, the sleeve has been imbedded in the top of the bore making it impossible for the bore scope to be used.

As for financial remedies, I agree that the squeaky wheel needs to prevail on this one. Keep pressuring the one that seems the closest to breaking (warranty company versus dealer versus Ford). You should not have to be a victim of an inferior product design (although many of us have been at one time or another). It does seem like a freak occurrence, though. Not meaning it did not happen. Just that it's probably a 1 in a million bad chance. I don't see how you can get around the initial hit of agreeing to the labor charge (in principle) for the head to be removed unless you are willing to have it towed to your own garage to be done yourself. I wish you all the luck in the world on getting this resolved satisfactorily.

Thanks for the responses guys. I had it towed to the dealer where I purchased it. The GM of the dealership offered to break it down for $500 so I can find out the extent of the damage this issue has caused. I'll post the results of their diagnosis when I hear back from them.

Hi.

My take on the 'spinning' shield is, you are more likely to loosen it upon removal, as you have 'stressed' the joint by doing so. Otherwise, the same mechanism that is causing them to bind in the bore makes it very unlikely for them to fall in on their own under use. But, I do agree with you; however remote, it still appears possible.

Here's the thread by Jpdadeo: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ht=spark+plugs

I personally have not seen reference to the 'crimp' being improved. Anyone?

My solution will be Brisk plugs. Now that's a proper design. One wonders how the current design ever got off the drawing board. Whatever happened to failure analysis? lol

OP - any details on just where that shield ended up, etc, would be appreciated. As would pics, lol! Good Luck!

Just gotta call back from Louie - The NGK's went in his 99 when we did that NOT his 05 - he kept his old plugs when he did the 05 over here and I didn't see him put them in the box and then he put them in the cab .. He wanted NGK's for the 05 but couldn't get them.. It seems like we did the plugs in every vehicle at just about the same time that fall. Some times I'm here , sometimes I'm not ..

Your right on this one MGD --- My Bad , Sorry..
