Heads - everythings White inside?

Just wondered if this was normal . When I had the manifolds off and looking up into the heads the valve stems where white - everything i could see in there was white. Both sides.

The heads have 230,000 miles on them.

Thanks

Must have been running just a touch on the lean side, a lot of fuel addatives would cause that also.

I don't believe in fuel additives - ("Snake Oil" - as bubba would say ) Huh, I wonder why it's lean. I have everything polished from the TB down thru the lower intake . It doesn't get dirty.

Well ,it has 4 new O2 sensor's now - maybe that will straighten it up. It's running great.. I just swapped out my coils for new ones as well . The plugs looked normal. Dielectric grease converted to solid form and pealed off - it looked like silicone lol. I'll do a vacuum test and compression again - see what that tells me..

My compression was perfect last year - I haven't hooked up the vac gauge to the main manifold vac yet - been wanting to do that to see how the gauge reads.

I gottah check my mileage next fill up - I'm @ 320 miles in this tank - I don't think I've went that long before without adding some more juice to her..Maybe I have - I don't check that much in the truck..

i remember someone saying that if the inside of your exhaust pipe is white then that's good so i wouldn't be to worried...... i would say your truck is in shape to get to 300k+ by the way you have been taking care of it

I hope it makes it to 300k . My manifolds were black inside - it was just the valve stems that were white.

Fuel pump worries me a bit - I have a 1900 mile trip ahead of me and the last time I put a new fuel pump in her was @ 90k. Everything checks out with it as far as correct pressures.. It's got about 130k on the pump - it's got to be getting tired..I don't want that going out on the way..

Think I should order one?

I have one with 75,000 miles if you need it. There is nothing wrong with it. I replaced it with a Walbro 190. Let me know if ya want it jbrew
Ever replace the fuel pressure regulator jbrew???

If you buy a new one the Walbro 190 is like $110 for the complete kit.

Hey did you get that 190 before your tune ? I think I'm going to make some modes to the intake to get rid of the induction noises.

I was wondering if the 190 effected the bogging problem in a positive way or did the tune staighten that out?

I've also had bad luck fixing something that ain't broke

The regulator? I replaced the two orings - but that's about it. I have another with about 68,000 on it. I should prolly get a new one.

Thanks for the offer on the fuel pump - but I better get a new Walbro..

just means theres alot of sulfur in the fuel you buy completely normal i had some small specs on mine when i did my shorty headers install. but when i pulled them off to put the long tubes the increase in flow just with the shorties got rid of alot of build up in the exhaust ports. u can run some diesel through the gas mix very little though that will clean it up. just make sure its low sulfure diesel. and yeh drive it nicely it will clean the motor out but its gonna run like crap. it was funny to me i could put it to the floor its shake and sputter and emit a noxious nasty smell i use to get guys on bikes and ethnics that choose to play their music with loud subs at stop lights..

Thanks for the info fast I was just messing with Joey - I think he dropped his tank 3 times in one day lol..

I was rear ended three weeks ago - the adjuster was out to look at it and they sent another dude to look at it one more time . They said my frame was bent .. Frame bent ? No it's not ?? When that little Saturn went underneith me - it took out my spare tire piece between the frame rail and shoved it over my tank and bent the drivers side bed mount.. I can fix that pretty easy .. I received a check from insurence for $3200 today - I feel guilty..

Ya the 190 will work without a tune. Your injectors will only do what is needed. I installed that for when i end up going with 24lb injectors next year.
The issue wasn't the intake jbrew. It was the combination of a CAI and a canned tune that made it go lean. It ran fine on the stock tune.

You should be fine with the walbro 190. I got the kit from Troyer which included everything for the install.
Actually built54 should have a 190 from his motor!!!
The fuel pressure regulators usually don't fail from what i understand.

Yea it will take me longer - I have to clean everything up before I'll work on it.

Plus I might as well fix my EVAP since I'll have the tank down. I might need to get re-plated in Arizona if I'm there past April. Not sure on how they are about emissions .. Although I never generated a P1000 code. Everything tests. I think that P1000 has everything to do with the EVAP. That Solenoid Vent , Charcoal canister above the rear axle. Mines bypassed , that's prolly why I don't get the P1000 - Only thing I can figure..

Danggg - I can get a welder now - maybe a oxy acetylene kit and some brassing rod as well !! - I'm rich!!
