2004 f250 6.0 diesel injector problems?

Hi I bought a used f250 lariat super duty with a 6.0 diesel with 95000 miles about a month ago. We went on a trip from Manitoba, Canada to Oregon. 700 miles from home I was stranded beside the road and ended hauling it home on a trailer.

The motor idles for a few minutes and dies out. If you put it in gear, step on the brake and then on the accelerater it does almost nothing. It seems to be dieing from lack of fuel. I changed the filters but that did not help.

One mechanic thinks the a fuel injector is defective and allowing compression to push the fuel back towards the pump and starving the engine of fuel.

Does this model engine have problems with bad injectors?

Do I replace all four injectors on the one bank at the same time or is it ok to just replace the faulty one?

Before I spend lots of money to correct this I thought I would see if any others have ever had this problem.

Thanks

Yeah, it wasn't until about '06 they figured out how to make a decent one. If you get bored sometime sit down and look at the TSB's on that engine, should be a fair amount of reading for you.

Like stated above the 6.0 was plagued with various injector issues and replacements. Computer reflashes are numerous and if yours idles quietly, it hasn't seen any of the reflashes. Here are the TSBs for your truck:

If you bought the truck used from a Ford dealer, I would ask them to have a factory rep take a look at it and he might give you some help with the cost of repair. FWIW, if you have to fund the repairs, replace ALL of the injectors. You will also have to run a fuel additive for the low sulphur fuel. Sulphur is used in the fuel as a lubricant for the old style injectors. Low sulphur fuel will cause them to fail prematurely. There are several additives designed for this. Unfortunately, you bought the worst built Ford truck in a long time. The 6.0 introduction did not go well and issues were common. Best of luck.
