Does high mileage oil do anything differnt than stock oil? someone said it has stuff in it to make the piston rings seal up a little bit better. if any one knows any advice will help thanks a ton!

What brand and weight are you running? What ever you've used to get you this far just keep using the same stuff. I've never used it high milage oil. I am running motorcraft 5w20 along with a motorcraft filter in my 97 F150 4.6 auto 4x4 with over 209k miles. I only go through 1- 1 1/2qts in 3000 miles.

I thought the high mileage oils were just a regular semi synthetic, with a different label....

High-milage oils supposedly have additives that soften valve seals and reduce oil consumption, but Ive never seen any independent studies that confirm this.
IMO its nothing more than marketing BS.

ah gotcha ill just go back to the normal stuff. what about that engine cleaner stuff you put a Qt of it in before and old chage and run the engine at idle for 5 mins. and it says it cleans off all the internals off....the oil is super super super black when i use this. does this stuff work?

You must be referring to Sea Foam. Ive tried dumping it in my gas tank to clean out the fuel system and it must have done something because it made my "service engine soon" light come on for a few days. I couldnt tell a difference in my truck's performance though.
Ive heard of dumping that stuff in the oil about 500 miles before an oilchange, but Ive never tried it. At 165,000+ miles, I figure Id better just leave things alone.
