Unhappy New Motor or Not

Today I was on my way to work. I stoped at a red light and noticed that my rpms were jumping around, so I turned off the radio. I heard a loud noise coming from under the hood. I pulled off into a parking lot and turned off the truck, and looked under the hood. I found a sparkplug that was shot out the the motor. I have asked a few people and they think that it is a broken connector rod. Can I fix this motor or should I get a different motor for the truck. The truck is a 1999 Ford F-150 with the 4.6L V8 and manual trans. I still have a loan on the truck, so i want to keep it. Any recomendations would help. Thank you

It could be that it just shot the plug. If I am not mistaken it is a known problem. Someone else should chime in soon...
