Fuel mileage. A tuned diesel can easily get 25+ mpg.

Try that with a 3/4 ton gasser....

Torque, Badass sound, and the fact that it lasts forever.

It would be easier and cheaper to buy an F-250 with a 7.3 in it.

Too big, too heavy, wrong computer, wiring, transmission etc., etc., etc.

upfront cost vs gas savings ?

500k engine in a truck that looks and drives worn out at 200k to 250k miles

seriously after 5 to 7 years you will have your share of dings and scratches, stains on the inside and probalby have to rebuild a trans, a/c system and suspension parts

to me you buy a diesel because you pull heavy loads often or you have the extra cash and that is what you want

Black smoke really is becoming a thing of the past with diesels. You might get a slight puff now under a heavy load, but I think even that is very rare. I personally would like the look of a V10 under the good of my 1fiddy! Generally same dimensions, I think it's just like 6 inches longer? Could be very wrong on this. You's need alot of chopping, but you bump up some hp, you get pretty good tq with a v10, and it's just unheard of! Then again the added weight could kill the gains.

It's been documented on this site by a member who installed a V10 in his F150. The V10 does have plenty of power but it also gets 8 mpg to boot.

Who? If so, I wonder why Ford doesn't just use a 3v V10 as the band-aid engine for 2009?

i talked to a guy at roush who helped install a v-10 on an F-150 he said it was such a pain to do. when they gave the guy the keys he said if u have any probs dont bring it back to us. Ya black smoke is a thing of the past unless u got a power programmer and then u can make smoke pour out of ur truck. a buddy of mine put a cumnins turbo diesel in his chevy 2500 and got a power programmer and it pours out black smoke at 1/2 to WOT its got a monster like 6inch tip . he did a pretty good job on the swap. i think the diesel would be better than a V-10 the 7.3 gets about 25MPG the v-10 gets like 8-10 if ur lucky. i think they both would be hard to drop in an F-150 but if u got it in there itd be so crazy.

I have never heard of a diesel truck getting a legit 25+ mpg I will believe a cummins getting around 20mpg. I read an article a while back like last year about a guy trying for gas mileage in his superduty with the 7.3L he was getting 23 mpg and he was starting to work on things like more aerodynamic windshield wipers to get more MPG's out of it. This guy had done just about everything you could think of for more gas mileage including a custom mileage tune.

Brother in laws chipped 01 Cummins gets 25-27 mpg. ( 5 speed std ) and a friends 04 Duramax ( I'm not too sure if it's chipped ) gets 25 pulling a 23' 5th wheel. Been in both trucks at the time and the Chevy's mileage was confirmed by manual calculation.
