starter grinding

occasionally when i go to start my 2000 F-150 5.4L the grinder squeals as if it is bad i have had my mechanic put on two different starters and a new flywheel and it is good for about three weeks than does it again. there are no service bulletins and the mechanic and i are out of ideas. Any advice would be appreciated.

Not too sure. Mine did that, and when I put my new engine in, I looked at the starter and the flywheel, both looked brand new, but I put a new flywheel on my new engine, and it has yet to grind again.

i talked to the dealership and they recommended checking to see if the crankshaft is true. my truck has 126,000 miles on it is actually possible the crankshaft is bent? personally i would think their would be other issues if the crank was actually bent.

im going to say it just happens. Not sure why, but mine did it for 4-5 years, no wear on the starter or flywheel
