Engine Cutting Out!?

Hey guys, just started doing this yesterday...got on the gas and it truck began to cut out a bit (almost like a bad exhaust leak, the whole "tuh tuh tuh tuh" sound), as I also lost most of my bottom end. Check engine light began flashing (never done that before). Friend told me it might be a EKG or ECG II sensor. Dont know what that is or where it is. Any help would be great!

Jason

Go over to Autozone and get the codes read, it's free. Post back with the exact codes.

Which engine do you have?

went to autozone and they told me they no longer do this. I would have to buy the reader to check it. Any have this same problem, or know what it could be?

That's a crock of %$#^. Try a different Autozone, then try other large parts store chains. Advance Auto does it, and they own Kragen and Checker.

AutoZones in California haven't done code reading for several years. They still do everywhere else, so far.

Without the fault codes, you'd do just as well as farting into a hurricane.

At my Auto Zone in Bakersfield they will not scan the codes for you. However, they will loan you the scanner for you to do it yourself. They charge the price of the scanner ($160) to your credit card, and when you return it you get 100% refund. I've done this at least three times, including about 1 month ago. The scanner has always been in stock when I've needed it.

California doesn't have any O'Reilly's.

I got a simple OBDII code reader on ebay for less than $40. It was invaluable in solving by son's MAF problems on his 97 Mazda B2300, and turning off his CEL when he runs out of gas. It's not CAN compatable, but it should work on your 2000.

ok just got back from pepboys to read the codes, cost $20 but worth it I suppose. Here are the problems:

1) P1270 (engine RPM/Speed Limiter Reached), did some research on this and found out it might be a sensor?? or a fuel injector? Any more info on how to fix this or know what the name of that sensor is?

2) P0306 and P0307 (misfire in cylinder #6 and #7), can this be repaired by replacing the plugs, cops, and wires? I'm pretty sure the plugs havent been changed out yet. Any other help would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I had a bad Bosch plug and it eventually through a misfire code (the plug had 20,000 miles on it). A new Motorcraft plug fixed the problem. BTW, my motor ran like crap for a long time before it would throw a code.

Engine cutting out.

Took my truck to local dealer where I bought it (4 years ago). Their scanner, kind of like a laptop, pinpointed my problem. Was charged $37, told me it would be cheaper for me to replace part than to have him do it. Bought part from dealer, which by the way was cheaper that Advanced Auto parts, don't have a Auto Zone near me. Granted I'm in a small town and have developed a relationship with the mechanics, but like everyone else, they don't want to get ripped off, and they want you to come back for the more serious problems.
