I had an issue with my wifes off brand american suv. Sounded terrible on start up turned out to be the fan clutch wasn't working right. Now the rpms are the same , but the sound is much more pleasing..

Seems perfectly normal to me. My mom's 2000 idles high at startup but drops down pretty fast.

You don't have a problem until it idles at 5-6 grand like my Camaro

Meh, Envoy, Trail Blazer, Ascender, same difference. Those electro-viscous fan clutches suck.

Monster... in other words it's doing what it's supposed to do. However, wait til the idle drops before you shift into gear. Causes stress on drive train components.

That sounds normal to me, too. But mine revs high for well over 30 sec before coming down to 1,000, and everyone ignores the time factor I have described. he amount of time is the problem. If it revved and fell back to 1,000 in a second or two I would have no question. If you don't KNOW, don't answer. If you do know, PLEASE answer. What are the parameters to look at for the TSB to in effect???
