Clutch problem on Ranger?

I have a 96 Ranger with the 2.3. Driving home yesterday the clutch went to the floor and stuck there. I can pull it back up with my hand and it will stay there but when I push it in it stays on the floor again. Any ideas? Slave or Master cylinder? Is the slave internal or external (that is a biggie as for as repair cost go). Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

slave seems to be the typical one to die and last i checked on the newer bodystyle it is internal. generally the master can leak onto floorboards if its bad.

goodluck sorry i cant help much more, going to hospital - kid today?

Update!

Thank Klitch! It turned out to be none of these things. The bracket is snapped out of place where the pedal goes through the firewall. We jerked up (no wise cracks) on the pedal and it popped back into place. It is just a little piece of plastic-go figure. Anyway it looks like I am in good shape. At least it gave me an excuse to drive my Screw to work today LOL
