yet another problem?

yet another problem?

the other day i was driving down the interstate and i was running bout 80 and i gave it more gas to pass someone when doing this my truck sounded like it was missing on one of the cylinders... then the service engine light started to flash... can anyone help me with this and please don't tell me this is going to cost much...

That's a missfire - if you didn't know that - it's going to cost allot.

i had the codes read and i also do know what a misfire is but it doesn't always missfire only when i lay into it... thank you for the help... why would the light go off after i knocked it back down...

The light flashes when the misfire is so bad that enough unburned gas is being sent out of the cylinder(s) to damage the catalytic converter.

Sounds like C.O.P's to me too. After mine went, I kinda figured something wasn't right and kinda narrowed it down to them. I saw alot of rusty dust color on the outer boot on #3 and since I had a spare set, replaced them all. It was a good idea to have a spare set because them failing or just needing replacing was and is inevitable. Dielectric grease in the boot could help in the meantime.

check your wires

even though it can be a pain in the ***, check your spark plugs and wires, maybe they wet if you went a puddle or something - do this before you start spending a crazy amount of money

That's I think what did it for mine was a huge puddle so dielectric grease them and see if it helps. Shop places for coils though because they are cheap (online) and expensive (dealer). I suggest Motorcrafts, but others like different brands.

well i m going to pull the plugs sat. and prolly replace the wires as far as i know they have never been changed... i also have got to put ball joints in it this weekend if i m going to replace the upper ball joints and control arm should i go ahead and do the bottom ones also... what is the c.o.p? and how much are they...

if i take that somewhere what is that going to cost me? i ve been reading all these threads bout broken plugs, i changed them once before but i don't remeber it being as bad as everyone is posting... but i need it done soon and i would like to the average price before i make that decision...
