starter problem

Hello - Today when I started my truck I drove it about 15 feet and then turned it off. When I turned it off I could still hear a noise which sounded like the starter was still turning. I turned the key back and the truck started without my cranking the engine. I tried to turn it off a few times and could smell an electrical burning smell. Now when I turn the ignition it just clicks and will not start. I just had a new started put on the truck about 1 1/2 months ago, do you think it is the starter? The truck is a '97 F-150 S/C with a 4.6L engine. I have 170,000 miles on it. Thank you for any help.

Sounds like the starter stuck in the engaged position and burn up. Should be a warrenty on part and labor.

It was probably a remanufactured unit, in which case I would not be at all surprised to hear that it's already bad. I've gone through 3 starters in the last year. I'd love to just buy a new one, but the one I originally bought has a lifetime warranty, so I can't justify spending an extra $200.

Sounds like a bad starter to me though.
