Oil

I know this has probably been asked a gazillion times, but really......what oil do you folks recommend?

Also, will I get any benefit from changing out the factory thermostat and putting in a cooler one? I have an 05 Supercab with the 5.4.

Thanks....

Yes it has, and this forum has a Search function...........

Keep the stock temp thermostat in there. The whole engine control system is based on that temperature.

Think the sun will come up the next day?
Ever hear of 5w20 oil?
Colder thermo makes the motor use more gas with little gain.
You can only go just so much cooler before a code is set.
Higher wear results over the long term.

Use the oil grade printed on the fill cap, keep the stock thermostat or your just beggin' for trouble.

No, there's no point, and it will set off your check engine light.

You're right, it has been mentioned a gazillion times as search method will prove. Everyone here seems to have their own brand of oil and filter. Me? As long as it's changed and the proper number oil put in with the correct filter, you'll be fine. Many say Fram filters are *****, I've never had a problem. Don't rack you're brains too much, buy a brand of oil/filter that for instance you're favorite driver is sponsored by. Mine is 90% Castrol GTX and Fram filters, why? Because John Force is my favorite as well as his HOT daughter Ashley!!!!!!!! That's keeping it simple and advertising at work

Oh yeah, like chester said, it will throw a light on because the engine will still be operating in a close loop, basically choke partially on. When my stat deep sixed, it stuck open during the winter and never allowed the engine to get to operating temp very often, hence the C.E.L staying on.
