Was wondering what everyone gets for gas mileage out of their 4.6? I have an 02 reg cab and am getting around 16 highway and i thought this should be a little better but thanks for the info.

i get 16-17 highway 11-14 city. i have a 4x4 a 2 wheel drive should be a little better

 

My truck is a 2001 2 x 4 supercab with the Romeo 4.6l, and typically I get 19-20 mpg highway and around 17 in town. You seem to get a little low....

 

mine is a 4x4 and i thought it was kinda low idk if running to small of tire can hurt mpg because dealership has 245's on it and recommended is 265 thanks for the info

 

my tires are 275/70/16 i have 3.31 gears. 4x4s use more fuel. get a scangauge or and edge and you can see when you are using the most gas

 

I got an 02 supercab FX4 4x4 with the 4.6, with 285/70/17's and a 3.73 axle ratio and I get 19-20 hiway and 15-16 city.

 

'97 F-150 4.6 SC LWB, 2wd, 3.55 gear with 245/75/16 tires.
Gets 12-(14 typical)-15 City and 17-(19 typical)-20 highway at steady 75 mph.

 

2003 F150 SuperCrew Lariat 4.6L
I hold 65-67 on cruise on the highway. My tranny seems to feel stronger at the lower RPM, if I get up to 70, it kicks out of O/D anytime I go up even an overpass. Always has. Maybe the factory set a shift point a little off or something? or maybe I need a new PCV... either way -

In New Mexico / Amarillo runnin highways I was getting 21-22mpg City 16-17. (I think it was all about the dry climate and slightly thinner air.)

Houston area now (gulf coast humidity) slightly larger tires and a flowmaster puts me at 17.5-19mpg on the highway and 14.5-15 in the city.

 

Another reason you may be getting worse mileage in Houston is if the gas there has added ethanol, like most large metro areas.

 

According to the maja Edge, 10-12 city/towing, 14-15 hwy on a 98 4.6 scab 4x4, with an 02 engine in it. I'm running 235 tires, which helps, but I've never seen better than 16 for any length of time. There is no ethanol gas here, and I usually run 89 for my level 2 tune.

 

Usually get around 18 going easy on the highway. 4.6 4x4.

Yesterday I ran my Dad up to the hospital (about 30 miles at 80-90 on the Highway & a tad less through town )...

Somehow managed to suck down about 6 gallons of gas.

Granted, it does not have a tune and I'm running Commercial Traction tires, but 6 MPG average? Ouch!

She has hardly any 0-60 umph and keeps dropping out of overdrive on the hills.

Should I just shoot it now, or is there something that can be done for both power and performance?

My 1997 Ext cab 4x4 4.6l is getting around 16 hwy if I drive it easy around 12 in town. It's going down now, but its starting to miss and stutter under load a little, so as soon as I can save up my pennies its going to get new coils packs, new wires and new plugs along with a new fuel filter, and a pcv. hopefully that will get her runnning back on the sweet side and the mileage will creep back up.

 

My 2002 Supercab 4x4 with 255/70-16 tires, 3.31 gears and a 5.4 usually gets about 17-19 on the highway, closer to 10 in town which is mainly stop and go. Towing roughly 7k is an optimistic 10, the gears that help my milage empty really hurt when it is loaded down loaded, I need a two speed rear axle .

 

When stock, I averaged 13 city, 16 highway. With the tuner on 87 octane performance tune, I upped the average to a little over 14 city. I have not done enough time on the highway to give an accurate highway average. I have just reprogrammed with the 91 octane tow-performance tune, and am waiting to see results. This coming Thursday, I will be installing 3.73 gears and hope to increase mpg all the way around. Stock with the 3.08 ratio, it would downshift on the slightest grade. The programmer helped reduce this some, but the gears will help most.

The wife's 05 Explorer 4x4 with the 4.6 Windsor and 3.73 ratio gets 15 city, 19 highway in completely stock form. Compared to my F150, the Explorer feels like it breathes fire . . .
