my 4.6 needs more power for towing

i have a 98 f-150 with a 4.6 and ive been pulling a horse trailer alot over the past couple weeks and the truck really struggles, so i am looking for the best way to get more power/better towing capability. ive considered changing from 3:55 to 4:11 gears, installing a power programmer, or just bolt ons such as an intake, exhaust, TB Spacer, etc... If any one has tried any of these options i would appreciate some input on which one will give me more power for the amount of money i would be spending. Thanks!!

A PI head swap from a '01 would help alot. The cost would be the used price of the heads and the intake. If you get used heads I would recommend having the seals replaced.

Performance Improved. In '01 Ford upgraded the heads on the 4.6 and I think that added 35hp. All the 5.4 are PI.

2wd or 4wd? If 2wd a gear swap will make a HUGE differnece and wont be too expensive. With a 98 a programmer will not add as much as it does on a newer model. Intake and exhaust can help, but they can also reduce your low end at times. I would do the gears first and see if that is anout of a change to make you satisfied

Change the gears. They multiply the available torque to the wheels. You should be looking at $1200.00 to $1500.00 for the install on a 4X4.

I changed the gears in my 4.6 from 3.31 to 4.10. that'll help you tow that trailer around a lot better. probally your best option as far as bang for your buck.
