K&N Filters: are they worth it?

I don't see how your IAC is any more at risk with this than any other filter. I'm tempted to toss my K&N and get one of them myself. I just had to get a BG job done and I'm not that pleased.

I own a 1993 f150 w/a 4.9 I6 and the K&N filters i drive in dust alot and the filters do help and pay off quick
and they sound realy good when they suck hard
but if you get them get the 2 of the cone type NOT drop in and take the top of your air box off and and follow the intake tube ( from the air box) to the grill pull that out and cut it off where it bends tward the driver head light then put it babk together (more "ram" air flow) but leave the top off

If my filter looked like yours, I'd go ahead and spend $20 for a new one.
I check mine every oil change and it's never THAT dirty. But then, maybe my K&N is letting all that crap through. Engine must be burning it though. No dust or dirt from the filter back. And with 70+K miles, no problems.

If you go to Bob is the Oil Guy's site, I'm sure you'll find the actual proof you're looking for. All the analysis come back with a much higher (silica I believe)? count, than with other filters, but don't quote me on that. Like I mentioned, it's old news, and many oil analysis have been completed to prove the K&N lets more dirt in that other filters.
This article is far from proof, but it was the first one that came up when I did a google search:

Thanks. Ya I know this is old news. Think logically. If it does allow more air, it means its allowing more dirt particles, however microscopic they may be. I was just looking for the actual analysis. Seeing what size particles are let through? Seeing if they compared it to another CAI kit or filter. I was just curious, again, thanks for the follow up.
