Unusual engine squeak/bang
Unusual engine squeak/bang
Two days ago my truck started makin a VERY unuaual noise. On occasion, especially right after startup, it will make a short, loud squeak. The only way I can describe the sound is like hitting a metal tank with a piece of rubber. It produces a loud echoing squeek. At times it sounds more like a bang. Yesterday I could force the engine to do it by bliping the throttle. It would work maybe 40% of the time.
At almost 218,000 miles, I guess it could be anything, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. It's not the belt assembly. It sounds kinda like a bearing going out, but it sounds as if it's coming from within the exhaust system.
It seems to have no effects on engine performance, and it isn't getting worse. I've driven over 300 miles since I first heard it.
Kinda ironic. I had a universal joint bearing go out this week on the truck. I guess it's falling apart.

I haven't thought about a broken motor mount! I jumped a ramp (about 4 truck lengths or so) the other day and landed kinda hard... That might have something to do with it.. I'll check it out. Thanks for the advise!
